Our story

Geordie accents are evidence of our childhood in the beautiful county of Northumberland, where we first met. In 1999, work drew us west, and we spent five fabulous years living in Blackburn, Lancashire, before heading south to Birmingham in the West Midlands in 2004, where we currently live with our three adult sons.

Our love affair with The Lake District began at age 18 when we stayed at The Low Wood Hotel (now known as Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa) in Windermere. We have always felt connected to Cumbria as our ancestors farmed and mined in Westmorland and Cumberland for generations. Martin’s grandma, Margaret lived in Grasmere during the Second World War with her uncle, John Joseph Foster, who ran the greengrocers J J Fosters in the village. She attended school in Ambleside and told stories of how she had to walk there every day in all types of weather.

Furthering our connection to Cumbria, we married at the Low Wood Hotel on 31 May 2003. In 2006, we purchased a small holiday let business in Ambleside, and since then, our love for this beautiful national park has grown with each visit.

We believe there is no better place to be than the Lake District. We hope that one day, we will be able to call Ambleside home. Living and working in this incredible place is our dream.

As an active family of five, we have enjoyed many activities the Lake District has to offer from climbing fells, swimming in tarns, kayaking across lakes, and facing fears at Via Ferrata………. we’ve done it all!

We aim to showcase the best of Ambleside so you can make the most of your visit to The Lake District by sharing our knowledge of such a beautiful area and all of the wonderful businesses Cumbria has to offer.
